Alcohol-Fueled Argument Ends in Tragedy: Man Charged with Wife’s Murder in Mumbai

Mumbai, 6th May 2024: In a tragic incident in Mumbai, Ajay Vardham (38), a resident of Shimla Nagar in the Malabar Hill area, has been accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Anjali Ajay Vardham (36), at their residence. The case was reported to the Malabar Hill Police Station following a complaint lodged by Anjali Vardham’s brother, Ashok Nalavade. The police have registered the case under sections 34, 302, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the authorities, a heated argument erupted between Ajay Vardham and Anjali over dinner on Saturday night, which tragically escalated into a fatal altercation. Anjali’s cousin sister, Shalaka Patil, stated that Ajay Vardham was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

The complainant, Ashok Nalavade, informed the police that between 10 to 10:30 PM on Saturday night, Ajay Vardham, harboring suspicions about his wife’s character, allegedly stabbed Anjali to death.

Following the murder, Anjali’s eldest son contacted her uncle, Ashok Nalawade, who promptly arrived at the scene to find Anjali lying on the floor in a pool of blood, having sustained a stab wound to her left chest. An unconscious Anjali was rushed by her brother to Bhatia Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physicians.

In connection with the case, the Malabar Hill Police have arrested Ajay Vardham’s mother. The complainant, Ashok Nalavade, has lodged a complaint against Ajay Shashikant Vardham and the deceased’s mother-in-law, Asha alias Saraswati Vardhaman, at the Malabar Hill Police Station, alleging that the mother-son duo attempted to tamper with evidence by cleaning away blood stains together.
