Brazilian Woman Arrested at Mumbai Airport for Smuggling Rs 11 Crore Cocaine

Mumbai, 3rd March 2025: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a Brazilian woman at Mumbai’s international airport for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth nearly ₹11 crore, which was concealed in approximately 100 capsules inside her body.

According to the DRI, officials acted on specific intelligence that a Brazilian national was planning to smuggle narcotics into India. The woman was intercepted upon her arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from São Paulo.

During questioning, she confessed to ingesting drug-filled capsules to smuggle them into the country. She was subsequently admitted to a government hospital, where medical professionals, under supervision, recovered around 100 capsules containing 1,096 grams of cocaine. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth ₹10.96 crore in the illicit market.

Following the recovery, the DRI seized the narcotics under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and placed the woman under arrest.

Authorities are now investigating her connections, including her handler and any accomplices who were expected to receive the contraband.

The central agency has charged her with smuggling a commercial quantity of drugs, an offense that carries a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years.
