C-55 Leopard Captured From Aarey Forest, Department Continues Search For Another One

Mumbai, 28th October 2022: The forest department has captured the C-55 leopard from Dhawari Goregaon, Aarey forest. The three-year-old male leopard has been sent to the rescue centre in Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Following the incident, the forest department started searching for another leopard that had been sighted. The leopard is being searched through the filming of 30 CCTV cameras.

After one-and-a-half-year-old Itika Lot died in a leopard attack on the day of Lakshmi Puja, the residents of Aarey demanded the capture of the leopard. According to this, the forest department installed two cages with CCTV cameras in the area where the leopard attacked Itika and imprisoned the leopard at six o’clock on Wednesday morning. The captive leopard is a male and is three years old. His condition is stable. He has been kept in a rescue centre.

Two leopards are suspected in Aarey. Accordingly, the forest department is now searching for the leopard C-56. It is said to be difficult to say which Leopard attacked Itika, C-55 or C-56 because both these leopards are roaming in the area of Unit No. 15, Aarey Dairy Colony.
