Central Railway Unfurls Tricolour at CSMT, Announces New AC Locals and Rail Projects
Mumbai, 27th January 2026:The National Flag was unfurled by Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Central Railway, at the Central Railway headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, marking the 77th Republic Day celebrations.
A Guard of Honour was presented by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) contingent, followed by the release of tricolour balloons. Addressing railway personnel, their families and passengers, the General Manager extended Republic Day greetings and highlighted key achievements of Central Railway during the year.
Central Railway was conferred with five individual awards and five shields at the 70th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar–2025 by the Ministry of Railways. In addition, 24 Divisional Shields and 98 individual Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar awards were received by officers and employees across divisions.
On passenger services, the General Manager announced the introduction of 14 air-conditioned local train services on the CSMT–Panvel Harbour line. Two EMU rakes have also been modified to include dedicated senior citizen coaches by converting existing luggage coaches.
Emphasising passenger safety, it was stated that multiple Foot Over Bridges, Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges have been commissioned, along with the elimination of level crossings. Boundary walls and bridges have been constructed at several locations, and 171 locomotives have been equipped with the KAVACH safety system.
On infrastructure development, Central Railway reported the inauguration of the Ahilyanagar–Beed new rail line, commissioning of 101 kilometres of new lines and multitracking, and electrification of 175 track kilometres. During the year, five new stations on Pune Division and two new stations on Mumbai Division were commissioned.
The General Manager also noted an 8 per cent increase in passenger earnings and scrap sales amounting to ₹330 crore under the Zero Scrap Mission. Central Railway received the Shunya Plus and Shunya labels from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency for its energy efficiency initiatives linked to the net-zero carbon mission.
Railway sports persons and cultural artistes were acknowledged for achievements in sports and arts at national and inter-zonal levels.
During the event, Neeta Gupta, President of the Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (CRWWO), along with executive members, donated wheelchairs, washing machines and other items to Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla.
The celebrations also included a dog show by the RPF and a cultural performance of Vande Mataram by artistes from the Central Railway Cultural Academy. The event was webcast live on Central Railway’s official YouTube channel.
Senior railway officials, including the Additional General Manager, Principal Heads of Departments, Divisional Railway Managers and other officers, were present at the function.
