CIDCO Awards Rs 2,500-5,000 Crore Contract to L&T for Navi Mumbai Airport Infrastructure Development

Navi Mumbai, 23rd August 2024: In the latest Town Planning Schemes (TPS) for the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has awarded a significant contract to L&T’s transportation and infrastructure division. Valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore, this contract involves an integrated infrastructure development project, as per L&T’s stock exchange filing.

The project, granted by CIDCO, includes the development of 60-meter and 45-meter wide roads, the construction of major and minor structures, and related electrical works. It encompasses four approach roads spanning 13.28 kilometres, featuring nine major structures, including three notable steel bridges over the Kalundre River and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, twelve minor bridges, twenty-seven underpasses, and various access roads. Additionally, the project will involve utility construction and allied electrical installations.

CIDCO has recently approved Town Planning Schemes 1 through 12 for the NAINA project and has issued tenders for these schemes. Tenders worth Rs 3,114 crore were released in March 2024 for TPS 2-7, and additional tenders totalling Rs 3,300 crore have been issued for TPS 8-12. Infrastructure work for TPS 1 has already been completed.

As the special planning authority for NAINA, CIDCO has adhered to the prescribed timelines for all town planning schemes. In March 2024, CIDCO issued tenders for road development, drainage, sewage, street lighting, and other infrastructure for TPS 2 to 7 across the 94 villages in NAINA, with a completion deadline of three years for the winning bidders.

In granting environmental clearance for the new international airport, the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) imposed a crucial condition on CIDCO. The ministry mandated that the master plan and development plan for Navi Mumbai be revised to accommodate the airport’s development and ensure that the surrounding growth remains orderly and planned.
