Cidco Demolishes Illegal Dargah Near Navi Mumbai Airport After Complaints

Navi Mumbai, 22nd November 2024: On Thursday, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) demolished a dargah allegedly built illegally near the site of the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport. The demolition followed complaints from the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a right-wing Hindu group, which raised concerns over the structure being a potential “security risk.”
The encroachment started in 2012 with the placement of four stones painted in white and green. Over time, the structure reportedly expanded, occupying around an acre of land. “We first raised the issue in March 2023 and again in October 2024. Finally, Cidco has taken action,” said Sunil Ghanvat, state coordinator for the organization.
The Samiti has also urged the removal of similar illegal structures on 35 forts across Maharashtra, claiming these sites are also facing encroachment issues.
