Doctor Defrauded Of Money By Fake Army Officers On Pretense Of Medical Check-Up For Children

Mumbai, 7th February 2023: A doctor was duped in the name of a medical examination of army children in the Santa Cruz area. The Vakola police have registered a case under sections of the Prevention of Information Technology Act along with fraud against Chandraprakash and Sathyaprakash, who pretended to be army officers.

The complainant is a female doctor and has a private clinic in Santa Cruz. Two days ago, a person named Chandraprakash contacted him over the phone. He told the lady doctor that he was working in CISF and 97 army children were to be medically examined in his hospital. 10 children will be sent for examination every day. Chandraprakash said that his superiors will call her for that. After that, a person named Satyaprakash called her and asked for the bank account information to send money online for the examination of 97 children. To win the trust of the lady doctor, he made a video call to her and pretended to be an army officer.

So the officials took the information from the doctor’s bank account and transferred about Rs two lakh online. As soon as she received the message that the money was withdrawn from the account, the doctor realized that she had been cheated. She then narrated the incident to the Vakola police and lodged a complaint against two fake officers named Satyaprakash and Chandraprakash. Following this complaint, the police registered a case against the duo under the Prevention of Information Technology section and started an investigation.
