Five Youths Rescued from Pandavkada Waterfall Amid Monsoon Fury

Navi Mumbai, 27th May 2025: Five youngsters stranded atop the treacherous Pandavkada waterfall in Kharghar were dramatically rescued by the local fire brigade on Monday afternoon, amid heavy rainfall and rapidly rising water levels.

Despite strict restrictions on visiting the waterfall during the monsoon, the group managed to climb to the top. However, intense rain triggered a sudden surge in water flow, leaving them unable to descend safely. Locals raised the alarm after spotting the group waving frantically for help.

The Kharghar Fire Brigade responded swiftly, launching a rescue operation that lasted nearly an hour. Using ropes and safety equipment, rescue personnel carefully brought the stranded youths down the slippery terrain. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

“We had repeatedly warned people about the dangers of visiting waterfalls during the monsoon,” said a fire official. “The current was strong, and the rocks were extremely slippery. This could have ended very differently.”

Each year, authorities impose seasonal bans on access to waterfalls like Pandavkada, which are notorious for steep drops and unpredictable water levels. However, thrill-seekers often ignore these advisories, risking not only their lives but also the safety of rescuers.

Navi Mumbai Police have appealed to the public to avoid venturing near waterfalls and other natural water bodies during the monsoon. Legal action may be initiated against the rescued youths for violating safety protocols.
