Gold Jewelleries Worth Rs 3 Lakh Stolen on LTT–Banaras Express; RPF Solves Case in Three Days
Mumbai, 12 December 2025: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway has solved a theft case involving gold ornaments worth around ₹3 lakh within three days of the incident reported onboard Train No. 12167 LTT–Banaras Express on 20 September 2025 near Jalgaon.
According to officials, a lady passenger reported the theft of her purse containing gold jewellery, following which a case was registered with the Government Railway Police (GRP) Bhusaval/Jalgaon. A special RPF team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspectors and constables launched an investigation using technical inputs and human intelligence.
Accused Arrested; Link Found to 2024 Theft Case
The main accused, Mahesh Lingayat, was arrested on 23 September 2025. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the theft and revealed his involvement in an earlier case on Train No. 12905 Porbandar–Shalimar Express on 26 December 2024, in which ornaments worth ₹9.64 lakh were stolen. That case had also been registered with GRP Bhusaval/Jalgaon.
Following this disclosure, the GRP, with assistance from RPF, arrested two additional accused Rajkumar Vishwakarma and Manoj Jadhav.
Case Registered Under BNS
All three have been booked under Section 305(C) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita in connection with the two theft incidents.
Advisory to Passengers
Railway authorities reiterated that passengers should remain vigilant about their belongings and may dial 139 for immediate assistance in case of any untoward incident.
