Heat Intensifies Across Mumbai and Konkan as Temperatures Spike in Early February
Mumbai, 5th February 2026: Heatwave-like conditions have begun to sweep across Mumbai and the Konkan region, with temperatures soaring well above seasonal averages, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. Forecasters have warned that the warm spell is likely to persist through the coming week, particularly along the coastal belt.
The IMD’s Santa Cruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35°C in Mumbai on Wednesday, the highest so far this season and for February — about 3.4°C above the normal for this period. At the Colaba observatory, the mercury climbed to 33.3°C, nearly 3.3°C above average.
Warm Spell to Continue
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures across Mumbai and Konkan are expected to remain elevated over the next week, with daytime highs ranging between 30°C and 32°C in many areas. Some parts of the Konkan region could experience even higher temperatures.
While minimum temperatures have shown relatively little fluctuation in much of the state, interior regions are forecast to record nighttime lows between 14°C and 16°C in the coming days, with the coastal belt experiencing relatively higher overnight readings.
Brisk winds are currently affecting central Maharashtra and Satara, the IMD noted, while Vidarbha’s temperatures — both maximum and minimum — are expected to remain largely unchanged. Pune is likely to see clear skies during this period.
Dahanu Records Highest Heat in State-
In the Konkan region, Dahanu recorded the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra at 35°C on Wednesday. Most Konkan locations reported daytime highs above 33°C, with Alibag reaching 31.1°C.
The highest minimum temperature in the state was logged at Ahilyanagar, where early morning lows remained at 14.3°C.
