Holi Festivities Marred by Injuries: Over 150 Individuals Hospitalized in Mumbai

Mumbai, 26th March 2024: During the Holi festivities, over 150 individuals were rushed to hospitals for treatment of injuries, with several requiring hospitalization due to the severity of their conditions. KEM and BYL Nair Hospitals witnessed a significant influx of patients, particularly those with head injuries, some of whom necessitated ventilation support. Cooper Hospital also attended to cases ranging from assaults to intoxication from bhang consumption.

At Parel’s KEM Hospital, 21 patients sought treatment for Holi-related injuries, with four requiring admission. Among them, three patients suffered head injuries, two of which were deemed serious, necessitating admission to the orthopaedic department. Dr. Sangeeta Rawat, the Dean of KEM Hospital, confirmed that one patient was placed on a ventilator.

Similarly, BYL Nair Hospital attended to at least 17 patients, including cases of falls and assaults. Among them, four patients were admitted, including one with a head injury sustained from an assault, and another with an eye injury caused by a water balloon. Additionally, the hospital treated cases of burns, including chemical burns, and instances of intoxication from various substances such as petrol and bhang.

At Sion Hospital, 32 patients were brought to the casualty, although only one individual with multiple injuries required admission, as reported by Dean Dr. Mohan Joshi.

Meanwhile, Cooper Hospital dealt with 83 cases, primarily related to injuries resulting from assaults and bhang intoxication, underlining the diverse range of incidents occurring during the festive period.
