IMD Issues Red Alert for Konkan-Goa, Orange Alert for Mumbai Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

Mumbai, 24th May 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for parts of Konkan and Goa, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. This comes after earlier alerts for thunderstorms in Delhi and an orange alert for Mumbai.
The red alert signifies the likelihood of severe weather conditions, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant and be ready to relocate if required.
Alongside Konkan and Goa, the IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall for parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Madhya Maharashtra.
Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, and the ghat regions of Pune and Satara are currently under an orange alert, with expectations of heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph. For Mumbai specifically, the orange alert remains active for May 24.
Authorities in the affected regions have been asked to initiate precautionary measures as the monsoon intensifies across the western coast and northeastern states.
