14th Mar 2024: Indian javelin thrower Kishore Jena, who secured a silver medal at the Asian Games and finished fifth at the World Athletics Championships in 2023, believes there is a high probability for India to win more than one javelin medal at the Paris Olympics.

Jena, who hails from Odisha’s Puri district, sees the current Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra as a mentor rather than a rival. At the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year, Jena impressed with a historic 1-2 finish alongside Chopra, securing silver with a personal best effort of 87.54 meters.

Reflecting on his experience, Jena expressed his gratitude for Chopra’s encouragement, noting that his aim is to achieve a personal best at his maiden Olympics in Paris.

Despite his achievements, Jena remains focused on continuous improvement, undergoing rigorous mental and physical preparation for the upcoming season. He recently embarked on an exposure trip to Gold Coast, Australia, accompanied by his coach Samarjeet Singh Malhi.

With his sights set on the Doha leg of the 2024 Diamond League season in May, Jena is determined to give his best and hopes for a successful performance, leaving the outcome in the hands of fate.
