Investigation Launched into Tragic Suicide of Hostel Manager in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, 6th February 2024: The suicide of a 26-year-old hostel manager for paying guests in Navi Mumbai has prompted authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Law enforcement officials discovered the deceased manager’s body at his residence in Kharghar, Maharashtra, on Monday morning. Subsequently, an arrest was made in connection with the case. A 32-year-old individual, operating a private hostel in the Ulve area, was apprehended on allegations of abduction and abetment to suicide. The accused claims that the deceased had embezzled Rs 60,000 from the hostel’s funds, which were recovered from him. Additionally, the accused alleges that the manager overcharged customers by Rs 5,500.

According to reports, on the previous Sunday, the accused, accompanied by unidentified associates, purportedly abducted the victim from Ulve and took him to a flat near a temple in Divale hamlet, where he was allegedly assaulted with an iron pipe. The victim’s mother has asserted in her complaint that this distressing incident contributed to her son’s decision to end his life.

Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, arresting the accused in the early hours of Tuesday and charging him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including abetment of suicide, kidnapping, and common intention. Efforts are underway to apprehend the other individuals involved in the case.

In a separate incident, the Thane police have apprehended a 27-year-old individual who had been evading arrest for over seven months in connection with an attempted murder case involving a meat shop owner in Thane city. Last year on June 14, a group of 7-8 assailants reportedly attacked the shop owner in Dhokali with sharp weapons after he refused to divulge information about a particular individual. The victim sustained severe injuries and required hospital treatment. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation, among others.
