Kalyan Man Loses Rs 17.65 Lakh In Honeytrap; 7 Arrested
Kalyan, 5th September 2026: Seven people, including an unidentified police officer, have allegedly honey-trapped a 56-year-old man from Thane district and extorted ₹17.65 lakh from him over the last three months. The accused reportedly used an objectionable video of the victim to threaten and extort money from him.
According to police, the victim is an employee of a private company and lives in Kalyan. The alleged honeytrap began when a 28-year-old woman, identified as Seema Jagtap from Dombivali, befriended him and later recorded an objectionable video of him.
The woman allegedly used the video to threaten the man and demand money. She was reportedly joined by her associates, who continued to extort money from the victim over a period of three months.
The victim eventually approached the police, following which an FIR was registered on Thursday, September 3.
Police have named Jagtap, her mother Bharti Sham Thakur, 55, her husband Sumit Singh and three other people as accused in the case. One of the accused is reportedly an unidentified police constable.
The accused allegedly worked together to threaten the victim using the video and extract money from him. In total, the man was allegedly forced to pay ₹17.65 lakh.
The case has been registered under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with extortion.
Police officials said that no arrests have been made so far. Efforts are currently underway to trace all the accused and investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged honeytrap and extortion.
The case has once again highlighted how victims of honeytrap scams can be threatened with private or objectionable material and forced to pay large sums of money over extended periods.
