Maharashtra: Abhang-Bhajan Competition To Be Held In Jails To Inculcate Positive Thinking In Prisoners
Pune, 9th May 2022: Inmates serving sentences for various offences in jails across the Maharashtra state will now sing Abhangs (devotional poetry) and Bhajans (devotional song). Jagadguru Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj State Level Abhang-Bhajan Competition has been organized for the prison inmates and to inculcate positive thinking in them as well as to get some leisure.
The competition will be organized by Sharad Krida and Sanskritik Pratishthan from 1st to 30th June. 27 teams will participate in this competition organized for the prisoners on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the independence.
The Home Department has issued an order allowing the inmates to participate in the competition. The competition is being organized under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and Inspector General of Prisons Atul Chandra Kulkarni.

Laxmikant Khabia, president of the foundation, said on Monday that it was the only and the first competition in Asia not only in the country but also in Asia. Famous singer Raghunath Khandalkar is training the inmates of Yerawada Jail for this competition.
