Maharashtra Lockdown Extended Till May 15, Free Vaccination For All: State Cabinet
Mumbai, 28 April 2021: The lockdown in Maharashtra has been extended till May 15. Earlier, the lockdown was imposed till 7 am on May 1. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting today.
Several ministers demanded that the lockdown be maintained in the state till May 15. Experts have suggested that maintaining the lockdown until May 15 could be beneficial. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will now decide to increase the lockdown in the state.
The state is seeing a positive effect of the lockdown. The number of coronavirus cases in the state has been declining for the last two to three days. Citizens should follow the Corona Preventive Rules like wearing masks and observing social distance. Therefore, increasing the lockdown by 15 days will help bring the situation under control, said Health Minister Rajesh Tope.
Free vaccination for all in Maharashtra
The decision to provide free covid vaccine to all people in the age group of 18 to 45 in the state was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet held today. After the meeting, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced this.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the health department is planning for the vaccination program and the citizens will be given proper notice in this regard, so there should be no unnecessary rush at the vaccination centres.
The Chief Minister said that despite the current economic crisis in the state, the health of the citizens is a top priority and that is why the decision to provide free vaccines to all people between the ages of 18 and 45 was taken at the state cabinet meeting.
