Massive Fire Guts Navi Mumbai Truck Terminal Warehouse; Cooling Operations Continue

Navi Mumbai, 7th July 2025 : A massive fire broke out late Sunday night at a truck terminal godown in Turbhe, Sector 20, near the APMC market in Navi Mumbai. The blaze, which started around 11:45 p.m., engulfed a warehouse storing large quantities of plastic and goods unloaded from incoming trains. While the fire was brought under control by early Monday morning, cooling operations are expected to continue until noon, officials said.

The Vashi fire brigade received an alert about the fire around 1:30 a.m., following which multiple fire tenders from Turbhe MIDC, Nerul MIDC, Koparkhairne, Vashi, and Nerul were rushed to the spot. Firefighters faced considerable challenges as the blaze reignited due to the presence of plastic materials, which are highly flammable. Intermittent heavy rains also hampered the operation.

According to the fire department, three trucks were completely gutted while at least 8–10 vehicles sustained damage. Eyewitnesses reported that hundreds of plastic crates used for storing vegetables and fruits were also destroyed in the flames. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

The affected warehouse functions as a key unloading point for goods arriving via trains to the APMC market. Stored commodities were reportedly worth several lakhs, although the exact value of the damage is yet to be assessed.

“There was a real danger of the fire spreading to other trucks. Had that happened, one vehicle after another could have caught fire,” a fire officer said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary suspicion points to a short circuit or accidental spark, exacerbated by the combustible materials inside the warehouse.

The incident has raised concerns over fire safety protocols in high-density storage areas around crucial transport hubs like the APMC market.
