MCA Works to Revive Prithvi Shaw’s Career as He Joins Mumbai Colts for Police Shield

Mumbai, 21st December 2024: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is working to revive the career of Prithvi Shaw, who was excluded from the Mumbai squad for the first three matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After years of playing international cricket, the IPL, and Mumbai, the 25-year-old will now participate in a local cricket tournament. Shaw will lead the Mumbai Colts team in the Police Shield, which features two-day matches at various city venues.

MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed that Shaw was asked by Sanjay Patil, Chairman of Mumbai’s senior selection committee, to play for the Mumbai Colts in the Police Shield, which begins today. While Shaw is unavailable for the first match on Saturday, he has agreed to play from next Saturday. “We want him to represent Mumbai again,” Hadap said.

Since last season, the MCA has required all senior players not involved in Mumbai or India duties to participate in local tournaments.

In a media interaction following Mumbai’s victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Mumbai’s head coach Omkar Salvi expressed continued support for Shaw, despite his exclusion from the Ranji Trophy squad. He mentioned that the association had been actively involved in Shaw’s training and fitness. “Even though he wasn’t part of the Ranji squad, the association ensured he had a solid fitness routine and practice sessions. He’s building up well, and we expect him to peak at the right time,” Salvi said.

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer also emphasized the importance of Shaw’s work ethic. “If he gets his work ethic right, the sky’s the limit for him. At the end of the day, it’s his responsibility to sort things out himself,” Iyer stated.
