Mumbai: 20-Year-Old Arrested For Allegedly Biting Policeman During Theft Attempt In Vikhroli

Vikhroli, 23rd August 2023: In an incident that unfolded in Vikhroli, a 20-year-old man was apprehended by Vikhroli police for reportedly attempting to steal iron rods and subsequently assaulting a police constable. The accused, identified as Mallesh Kamble, allegedly bit the hand of Constable Vishal Sonje, who had intercepted him during the act. The incident occurred in the Tagore Nagar area of Vikhroli on Monday night.
Constable Sonje, stationed at the Vikhroli Police Station, spotted a young man suspiciously stealing iron bars. Upon questioning, the accused became agitated and verbally abusive towards Sonje. The situation escalated when Sonje attempted to detain Kamble, leading to the young man biting the constable’s hand. Accused further bitten a nearby rickshaw driver named Liaquat, who attempted to assist constable. The youth was then subsequently detained from the spot.
The investigation revealed that the accused, Mallesh Kamble, is a resident of Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli. Notably, he had a previous record, having been charged with theft at Vikhroli Police Station in a case from the previous year. Following the incident, both Constable Sonje and Liaquat were taken to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Vikhroli for treatment. Police informed that after receiving primary medical attention, they were both discharged and sent back home.
In response to the incident, the Vikhroli police filed a case against Kamble for obstructing government work and assaulting an on-duty police constable. The accused was subsequently arrested by police on Tuesday.
