Mumbai, 2nd March 2023: A 23-year-old Khar Danda resident was detained by the police on Wednesday for extorting Rs 1.2 lakh from a repair and restoration business.

The accused went to an apartment on Altamonte Road that was undergoing renovations while assuming the identity of a Mathadi kamgar union member. The man questioned why his union had not been offered the job, which was being completed by a private company. He stated that they cease working and gave him cash, which he later got in his bank account. The police apprehended the culprit based on the details of the account.

The occurrence happened on 27th January. An officer reported that the accused, going by the name Pankaj, entered a flat where restoration and repair work was being done and urged the workers to stop work. He questioned why the Mathadi Kamgar Union was not granted the repair work. He then requested Rs 2.2 lakh to resolve the issue.

The following day, the accused called the representative of the contracting company and demanded payment or legal action would be taken. Negotiations resulted in a reduction of the price to Rs 1.2 lakh. The employee of the organisation sent Rs 1.2 lakh using RTGS.
