Mumbai and Five More Airports Launch Digi Yatra Facility for Seamless Passenger Journeys

Mumbai, 11th August 2023: In a groundbreaking development set to redefine air travel, Mumbai Airport is taking the lead in the nationwide implementation of the Digi Yatra facility. This innovative system, which employs Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) for seamless passenger processing, is set to be introduced at six prominent airports in August 2023.

The cities of Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati are all set to witness the transformation as they embrace the Digi Yatra service, building on its initial launch on December 1, 2022, at New Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports. Since then, the reach of Digi Yatra has expanded to four more airports – Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata – resulting in a total of seven Digi Yatra-enabled airports. This number is soon to surge to thirteen, encompassing the six aforementioned airports.

As of August 10, 2023, an impressive 3,460,454 passengers have embraced the convenience of Digi Yatra’s paperless and secure processing. The Digi Yatra mobile application has also achieved a remarkable user base of 1.29 million by the same date.

Digi Yatra employs cutting-edge Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) to allow passengers to move through various airport checkpoints effortlessly, all while ensuring a contactless and secure journey. A noteworthy feature of the system is its commitment to privacy: no central storage of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data occurs. Instead, passengers’ data is encrypted and safely stored within their smartphones, with data shared only between the passenger and the airport of origin. Importantly, this data is automatically purged from the airport’s system within 24 hours of the passenger’s flight departure, with sharing limited to travel instances and solely with the airport of origin.
