Mumbai: Annual Horticultural Exhibition at Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Botanical Garden and Zoo to Showcase ‘Animal Kingdom’ Theme

Mumbai, 30th January 2024: One of Mumbai’s most anticipated events, the annual horticultural exhibition at Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Botanical Garden and Zoo, is set to captivate visitors with a unique ‘Animal Kingdom’ theme this year. Under the guidance of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal, BMC Additional Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Ashwini Bhide, and Deputy Commissioner (Gardens) Kishore Gandhi, the exhibition will kick off from Friday, February 2, and continue until Sunday, February 4, 2024.

In its 27th year, the grand ‘Flower Show’ at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo, located in Byculla (East), will be inaugurated on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11 am. The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from 11 am to 8 pm on February 2 and from 8 am to 8 pm on February 3 and 4, 2024, according to Garden Superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi.

This year’s theme, ‘Animal Kingdom,’ promises to bring the vibrant world of animals to life through floral replicas of elephants, tigers, and zebras near the garden’s entrance. The exhibition will feature an impressive display of ten thousand pots, showcasing an array of flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables. As a special attraction, selected vegetables from abroad will also be part of the exhibition.

Since 2015, the horticultural exhibition has been presenting various designs using leaves and flowers, receiving spontaneous responses from Mumbai citizens, especially children. Each year, the exhibition is infused with creative ideas and presented with a different theme. The ‘Animal Kingdom’ theme aims to engage visitors with the beauty of nature and horticulture in a unique and visually stunning manner.

A noteworthy addition to this year’s exhibition is the inclusion of special sessions for students from various architectural colleges in Mumbai. Scheduled for January 31 and February 1, 2024, these sessions will provide students with guidance and hands-on experience through the Garden Department. Approximately 150-200 students from colleges such as IES College, LS Raheja College, Swami Vivekananda College, JG School of Arts, and Rachna Sansad College will benefit from this training camp, gaining insights into exhibition organization and landscaping design.
