Mumbai, 31st October 2023: In a startling turn of events, Ajay Ajit Peter Kerkar, who was arrested in Mumbai under allegations of orchestrating a massive fraud totaling approximately Rs 3,700 crore, was found in possession of a mobile phone and a tablet. Kerkar, the prominent figure behind the well-known travel company Cox & Kings, had been undergoing medical treatment at the Bombay Hospital in South Mumbai for the past four months.

Kerkar’s arrest came following a case registered at the Azad Maidan police station, following an order from the High Court. Kerkar was hospitalised in June this year, reportingly after the deteriortion of his health. Notably, the mobile phone, tablet, and charger were confiscated from Kerkar at the time he was admitted to the hospital.

Kerkar faces a slew of charges by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Financial Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police. The ED is actively investigating at least ten cases related to Kerkar, who is accused of misappropriating a staggering amount by obtaining loans from various banks.
