Mumbai: BARC Scientist Takes His Own Life By Allegedly Hanging At His Own House

Mumbai, 30th August 2023: A 48-year-old scientist working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai committed suicide at his residence. The name of the dead scientist is Manish Somnath Sharma, who had been living with his wife and son in one of the BARC quarters.
Sharma, who has been working as a scientific officer at BARC since 2000, was found dead at his house yesterday afternoon. The unfortunate incident unfolded yesterday when his wife, Neetu, arrived at home around 3 p.m. When Neetu entered the house, she found that his husband was hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall room.
According to the police, Sharma’s wife and son had gone out on Monday afternoon. But when they both came home, they found Sharma hanging. Immediately, she took her husband to the BARC Hospital with the help of neighbours, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. However, it is unclear at the moment why Sharma took such an extreme step.
Sharma’s wife told that her husband had been grappling with depression since 2001 and was seeking treatment for the condition at BARC Hospital’s Psychiatry Department. She further added that he had also been on medication.
The materials found at the scene, including the nylon rope and the handwritten suicide note, were sent to forensics for examination. Currently, the police have registered a case of accidental death, as no foul play is suspected.
Manish Sharma wrote a suicide note before suicide, which read out, I’m sorry, Beta, for ending my life’.
