Mumbai: Bomb Threat in Andheri Triggers Police Alert, 19-Year-Old Detained

Mumbai, 2nd May 2025: A bomb threat received at the Mumbai Police control room in the early hours of Friday triggered swift action from law enforcement agencies. A woman constable received the anonymous call, which claimed that a bomb or weapon had been placed in a bag at Anmol Apartment near Marol Pipeline in Mukund Nagar, Andheri.

the constable alerted senior officials, following which all security agencies were mobilized and a search operation was launched. Police personnel rushed to the location mentioned in the threat. A 19-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the call.

Upon questioning, the young man’s family informed police that he is autistic and undergoing treatment. Despite an extensive search at the site, no bomb or suspicious item was found. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the caller but confirmed that the individual is under medical observation.

In the past year, Mumbai Police have received over 100 bomb threats and messages, many of which turn out to be false alarms. Despite this, officials emphasize that each threat must be treated seriously due to potential security risks. “Even false information cannot be ignored. Every call or message is thoroughly investigated,” said a senior officer.

Currently, there is no special law to deal with such hoax threats, often resulting in early bail for the accused. Police officials have called for stricter legislation to deal with such incidents, which continue to drain police resources and affect ongoing investigations.

Interestingly, the control room also receives numerous missed calls and prank calls, some linked to personal, financial, or romantic disputes. Officers note that despite the nuisance, all calls are verified due to the sensitive nature of potential threats.

Mumbai Police continue to urge the public to act responsibly and avoid spreading false alarms, which not only waste crucial resources but also risk public safety.
