Mumbai, 18th February 2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted an application before a special court in Mumbai, requesting a halt to the airing of upcoming documentary series on Indrani Mukerjea, the primary accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The docu-series, titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth’, explores the disappearance of 25-year-old Bora and is set to get released streaming platform Netflix on February 23.

Through public prosecutor CJ Nandode, the CBI filed the application, urging the court to “direct the relevant parties to refrain from featuring the accused persons and individuals associated with the case in the documentary by Netflix and its broadcast on any platform until the conclusion of the ongoing trial.” Basis the plea, CBI Special Judge SP Naik-Nimbalkar has issued notices to Netflix Entertainment Services India and others, seeking their response to the application. Now, the hearing on the application is scheduled for February 20.

Bora (24) was allegedly murdered by strangulation in a car by Indrani Mukerjea, her then-driver Shyamvar Rai, and her the then husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012. Bora was Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship, and her burnt body was discovered in a forest in neighboring Raigad district. The murder came to light in 2015 after driver Shyamvar Rai disclosed the incident following his arrest in another case. Indrani was arrested in August 2015 and was granted bail in May 2022. Rai, Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea are also out on bail in the case.
