Mumbai Coastal Road Inauguration: Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road Opens to Public

Mumbai, 11th March 2024: The inaugural ceremony for the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, officially named Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, took place on Monday, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar in attendance.
Starting Tuesday morning, the southbound arm and 9.5 kilometres of the 10.58-kilometre high-speed corridor of the coastal road will be accessible to the public. However, traffic will be permitted only between 8 am and 8 pm on weekdays due to the remaining 15 % of the work. Work completion will take place during nights and weekends to facilitate pending construction tasks.
Motorists can enter the road from Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Road (Worli Seaface), pass through an underwater tunnel, and exit at Princess Street flyover within eight minutes at a speed of 80 km/h.
During the initial phase, only one arm of each interchange at Haji Ali, Worli, and Amarsons will be operational. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted the project’s significant feature, the creation of a 70-acre green area, which will connect with the existing Racecourse green open space spanning 120 acres.
