Mumbai Dockyard Employee Arrested for Espionage: Allegedly Shared Sensitive Information with Pakistani Operative

Mumbai, 11th March 2024: In Mumbai, a 31-year-old officer employed at Mazagaon dockyard has been apprehended on charges of espionage by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS). The ATS uncovered evidence suggesting that the officer had divulged sensitive information to an intelligence operative based in Pakistan. According to investigators, the accused, employed as a structural fabricator, fell victim to a honeytrap scheme and was subsequently coerced into sharing confidential details. It is reported that a Pakistani female agent cultivated a friendship with him on social media over several months, eventually leading to the exchange of money for classified information.
The ATS, in an official statement, revealed that they received intelligence indicating that an Indian suspect had furnished sensitive details to a Pakistan-based intelligence operative. The accused underwent interrogation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad, which uncovered the timeline of communication between the suspect and the Pakistan-based intelligence operative—spanning from November 2021 to May 2023 through Facebook and WhatsApp. The Indian government subsequently arrested the suspect.
Legal action has been initiated against both individuals involved—the dockyard staff member and the alleged Pakistani operative who received the sensitive information. The dockyard officer is facing charges under the Official Secrets Act and is currently undergoing questioning by the ATS. The nature of the disclosed information has not been disclosed by the officers, citing an ongoing investigation.
