Mumbai: Dombivli Residents Duped of Over Rs 6 Lakh in Bitcoin Investment Scam

Dombivli, 31st July 2023: A recent incident has brought to light a fraudulent scheme where 10 individuals, including a woman from Dombivli, were swindled of Rs 6 lakh 54 thousand under the pretense of lucrative Bitcoin investments.
The scam, carried out online last month, has prompted a complaint from Nutan in Dombivli, leading the Manpada police to register a case against the accused under the Information Technology Act.
According to the police, the accused contacted the complainant Nutan via Instagram’s Oliva 43, luring her with promises of significant returns on investments in Bitcoin within a short span. Falling for the scammer’s deceitful assurances, 10 other investors followed suit and trusted the accused’s claims, subsequently investing online during June and July.
Among the victims, Natoon Sawant transferred a sum of Rs. 6 lakh 54 thousand from his bank account to the account provided by Bhurtya. However, after two months, there were no sign of the attractive returns promised, leaving the investors in distress.
When the investors demanded answers and sought at least a return of their principal amount, the accused began to evade their queries and eventually stopped responding altogether. Realizing that they had fallen victim to a scam, the investors promptly approached the Manpada police station to lodge a formal complaint. As the investigation unfolds, the police are diligently searching for the accused.
