Mumbai: Elderly Man Arrested For Alleged Murder Of Bedridden Wife At His Residence

Kandivali, 28th August 2023: A 79-year-old man identified as Vishnukant Balur has been apprehended and taken into custody by Kandivali Police for the uxoricide of his bedridden wife, Shakuntala Balur, aged 76. The incident unfolded on Saturday night in their residence, located in the Kandivali neighbourhood.

Mrs. Shakuntala Balur had been grappling with a prolonged illness, her condition rendering her bedridden for a long period of time. According to reports, the accused husband, Mr. Vishnukant Balur, is believed to have taken this drastic step due to the mounting strain of caring for his ailing spouse.

Mr. Balur himself has been battling diabetes for over four decades. The situation reportedly came to light on the morning of August 25, when the maid arrived at their residence. On the morning, when the maid came to the couple’s house, she found the woman dead, while her husband Vishnukant was sitting calmly on a chair.

Deeply shaken by the grim discovery, the maid promptly alerted the neighbours, informing them about the incident. Immediately, the neighbours informed the Kandivali Police about the incident.

Surprisingly, when police came to arrest the accused, Balur attempted to take his own life by inflicting a wound to his neck. Fortunately, his suicide attempt was thwarted. The police have now registered a case of murder against the accused and have taken him into custody.
