Mumbai: FDA Cracks Down On Mumbai’s Famous Bademiya Restaurant Over Food Safety Violations

Colaba, 14th September 2023: After repetitively failing to meet the standards and regulations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided to throw the book at Mumbai’s famous culinary gem, ‘Bademiya Hotel’, situated in the Colaba area of Mumbai.

This 76-year-old Mughlai restaurant is one of the favourite places for food lovers in Mumbai. The FDA has decided to take this measure after a hotel was inspected for several hours. During the inspection, cockroaches and rats were found in the kitchen of the hotel. After that, FDA officials sealed the hotel.

Before the inspection raid by the FDA, the department had received many complaints regarding the filthiness of the hotel. In this case, the FDA sent multiple notices to the hotel earlier; however, the hotel owner did not take any measures to resolve this issue. As a result, the FDA raided the hotel and shut it down yesterday.

Surprisingly, it has come to light that this 76-year-old hotel does not have a legal licence from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. After this shocking discovery, questions are raised by everyone regarding public health.

Notably, this is not the only card in the deck, as the FDA has conducted several raids and inspections at different hotels and restaurants in various localities of Mumbai. Among these are Cloud Kitchen-style hyper kitchens in Govandi, Mumbai Darbar in Mahim, and Papa Pencho Da Dhaba in Bandra.

According to the Food Safety Act, restaurants have to follow at least 90 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority’s 100 rules during the inspection of hotels. However, in this investigation, the main complaint of unsanitary conditions has been observed in many hotels.

Meanwhile, the agency has stated that they would take all possible precautions to ensure people’s safety, and for the same reason, campaigns against disobedient eateries will continue, and harsh punishment will be taken against those found guilty.
