Mumbai: Fire Breaks Out in Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Mumbai, 15th March 2025: A major fire erupted in Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) near Dahisar, Mumbai, allegedly caused by individuals under the influence of alcohol while celebrating Holi. The blaze started around 7 PM in the forested area adjacent to Dahisar National Park. Firefighters and SGNP security personnel responded swiftly, bringing the fire under control within an hour to an hour and a half.

Despite their efforts, the fire destroyed approximately half a hectare of forest land. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible, with SGNP security guards and police involved in the probe. The incident raises concerns about safety and environmental protection during festivals like Holi, where unauthorized fires can pose serious threats to wildlife habitats.

This event follows previous fire incidents in and around SGNP, underscoring the need for greater vigilance and stricter enforcement of safety measures to safeguard Mumbai’s green spaces. As a vital ecological zone, the park continues to face challenges from human activities that contribute to such destructive occurrences.
