Mumbai-Goa Highway Traffic Solution: State Clears Rs 15 Crore for Key Road Projects

Mumbai, 11th June 2025: To tackle severe traffic congestion on the under-construction Mumbai-Goa National Highway, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday announced an urgent allocation of ₹15 crore for repair and widening of four critical road stretches in Raigad district. These routes are expected to serve as alternative pathways until the completion of the Indapur and Mangaon bypass projects.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Mantralaya via video conferencing, Pawar directed officials to fast-track the repairs of the following roads:
Morba Road to Mumbai-Goa Highway
Sainagar Canal Bridge to Uttekhol Canal Village Road
Nizampur Canal Road to Bhadav Road (three roads under Mangaon Nagar Panchayat limits)
Indapur Canal Road to Wigwali Phata on the Mumbai-Goa Highway
“These roadworks are essential to provide immediate relief to commuters. We cannot wait for the bypasses to be completed. Funds will be made available by the state for projects where central allocation is delayed or insufficient,” Pawar stated during the meeting.
High-Level Officials Join Push for Decongestion
The meeting witnessed the presence of key policymakers and administrators, including Public Works Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, and top bureaucrats from the Revenue, Planning, Finance, and Public Works departments. Senior officials from the National Highways Authority, Central Road Transport Ministry, and local Raigad district administration also participated.
Konkan Divisional Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Raigad District Collector Kisan Jawale, and Superintendent of Police Aanchal Dalal were instructed to coordinate on-ground efforts and ensure manpower is deployed effectively to manage traffic.
Follow-up on May 18 Site Visit
The review meeting follows Ajit Pawar’s aerial and ground inspection of the highway on May 18, where he promised swift action to address bottlenecks impacting thousands of daily commuters. The Deputy CM reiterated that improving traffic flow in Mangaon and Indapur was a priority, especially as monsoon-related delays could worsen road conditions.
State to Step In Where Centre Lags
In a clear message, Pawar assured that the Maharashtra government will not wait for delays in central funding when immediate infrastructure upgrades are needed. “Wherever the Centre is unable to provide timely support, the state will step in to ensure that people are not left stranded,” he said.
The repairs and temporary rerouting are expected to offer much-needed relief to travelers on one of the busiest highway corridors connecting Mumbai to the Konkan and Goa.
