Mumbai Local Train Services Hit by Multiple Technical Faults, Delays of Up to 40 Minutes Reported
Mumbai, 11th August 2026: Mumbai’s suburban train services faced significant disruptions on Monday as multiple technical faults affected the Western Railway network during peak hours, leaving commuters stranded and trains running 30–40 minutes late.
The disruptions were reported at several key locations, including Vasai Road, Dadar and the Goregaon–Churchgate section, affecting train movements during the morning rush, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The first major fault occurred at Vasai Road around 4:46 am, when points 111/112 on the Diva up and down fast lines malfunctioned due to a mechanical issue. Railway staff, including the deputy station superintendent, were deployed to the site, where point clamping was carried out to restore operations.
Later, at around 10:10 am, points 143/144 at Dadar failed to shift from reverse to normal, affecting train movements towards Churchgate.
Within minutes, another technical problem was reported on the Harbour line. Points 127/128 and 129/130 between Goregaon and Churchgate malfunctioned at around 10:22 am, adding to the delays across the suburban network.
The disruption also affected the Central Railway network. At around 11:53 am, a wire fell on the overhead equipment (OHE) at Mulund station, resulting in several local trains becoming bunched up near Thane.
The multiple disruptions caused severe inconvenience to commuters, with crowded platforms and delayed services reported during the rush period. One passenger said her usual 15-minute journey from Andheri to Bandra took nearly an hour on Monday.
While Western Railway services were affected by the technical faults, suburban services on the Central Railway were reported to be operating normally after the Mulund-related disruption.
The repeated technical failures during peak hours have once again highlighted the challenges faced by Mumbai’s suburban railway commuters, who depend on the network for daily travel.
