On Saturday, around 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon, a sudden fire erupts in the 14-story ‘Ganesh Kripa’ building, which is situated in Dr. Deshmukh Lane in the Sikka Nagar area of Girgaon. As soon as the news of the blaze came out, fire brigade personnel quickly rushed to the spot.
According to the primary understanding, it is estimated that the fire erupted due to a short-circuit; however, the exact reason for the blaze was not confirmed. The fire originated in the ducts on the third floor of the building and soon started making its way straight down to the electrical ducts on the first floor, causing the fear of mass destruction of lives and property.
Soon realising the potential threat of the wide-spreading inferno, fire brigade personnel, along with some men, safely evacuated the stranded residents, including 17 women, 5 men, and 5 children, to the building’s roof. Meanwhile, other residents effectively evacuated themselves from the premises during the fire.
Showing the presence of mind, alert firefighters promptly cut off the power supply to the building, preventing the raging fire from spreading to other parts of the building. After two hours of dedicated efforts, firefighters were finally able to successfully extinguish the fire, bringing some relief to the faces of the residents.
