Mumbai: Measles Infection Likely To Increase In Next Two Months

Mumbai, 31st January 2023: Measles infection usually starts in winter, making the current season encouraging measles growth. Measles cases are found every year till March. As a result, although the measles outbreak is currently under control, more care is needed in February and March. There is a possibility that the number of measles patients will increase due to the cold.

Measles outbreaks occurred in Mumbai and Maharashtra in October due to improper implementation of the vaccination campaign during the Corona period. To control this outbreak, the state government and the municipal corporation conducted a special vaccination campaign. As a result, it was possible to bring the measles outbreak under control by January. However, the present time is the period of measles transmission and every year after the onset of winter, measles patients are found.

Measles patients are found till March. As a result, the period of measles transmission is still ongoing. Measles infection starts with the onset of winter and lasts till March. Therefore, it is necessary to be more careful for the next two months.

Government efforts are on to reduce measles cases to zero. For this, more and more emphasis is being given to vaccination. The additional vaccination campaign conducted by the state government has received a 99 per cent response. Therefore, there will be more emphasis on vaccination in the future as well.
