Mumbai Metro One Celebrates 10 Years of Service with 99% Punctuality
Mumbai, 8th June 2024: Mumbai’s first Metro line, spanning from Versova to Ghatkopar, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Saturday, having completed 11 lakh trips with an impressive 99% punctuality rate.
Launched on June 8, 2014, Mumbai Metro One, backed by Reliance Infrastructure, marked the city’s transition to metro services, easing its dependence on local trains.
“We are thrilled to have delivered an exceptional customer experience to 970 million commuters over the past decade. The unwavering support from Mumbaikars has helped us become a vital link in the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor,” Mumbai Metro One stated.
Commuters have praised the Metro for halving their travel time and alleviating the burden on the city’s overcrowded local trains, while also providing an eco-friendly mode of transportation.
“Celebrating 10 years of Mumbai Metro is a must. It has made commuting simpler and more efficient. We look forward to the operationalization of other corridors in the city,” remarked a commuter.
The 12-kilometer Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor features 12 stations, running from Versova in the western suburbs to Ghatkopar in the eastern suburbs.
Prasad Keluskar, sales manager at Andheri Metro station, commented, “It doesn’t feel like ten years have passed. The number of commuters has grown, and the service has significantly improved travel, reducing travel time and helping commuters avoid the city’s traffic.” Approximately 4.5 lakh commuters use Mumbai Metro One on weekdays, with the service running 418 trips daily and trains arriving every 3.5 minutes during peak hours and every 7 minutes during off-peak hours.
