Mumbai Mill Workers To March At Azad Maidan Demanding Urgent Resolution On Housing Issue

Mumbai, 19th July 2023: In a bid to address the prolonged issue of housing, the mill workers from Mumbai are preparing to take to the streets and voice their collective frustration against the government’s ignorance towards their plight. Despite repeated promises, the mill workers have yet to receive the houses they were assured, leading them to call for a public march at Azad Maidan on Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m.

There are approximately one and a half lakh mill workers living in Mumbai. Out of which a large number of workers do not have their own residential houses. The state government had previously issued a Government Resolution on the matter, but the continuous delay in policy implementation has left the mill workers disheartened. The workers claim that the government has not provided any concrete information on when and where the houses will be made available to them, further exacerbating their plight.

Therefore, all Shramik organisations have called for a public march on Thursday, alleging that the state government is not at all concerned about the mill worker’s predicament. Officials of all labour unions informed that a large number of mill workers would gather at Azad Maidan on Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m.

In addition to the march scheduled for July 20, the Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh has also organised a separate march on July 25 to bring attention to the same pressing issue of housing. Labour unions have appealed for a large turnout at Azad Maidan to make their demands for housing resolution heard by the authorities.
