Mumbai: Municipal Corporation Increased Number Of Artificial Lakes For Immersion This Year, Appealed To Avoid Gathering At Immersion Site

Mumbai, 18th September 2023: With mere hours remaining until the much-anticipated arrival of Lord Ganpati, the state of Maharashtra is a hive of feverish activity. From households to Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals and city authorities alike, everyone is in full swing, orchestrating a spectacular preparation for this ten-day extravaganza.

In the midst of this palpable excitement, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has revealed a significant increase in immersion facilities this year compared to the previous one. With 69 natural immersion points and an impressive addition of 191 artificial lakes, Mumbai is well-prepared for the immersion of Ganesha idols. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation has announced plans for Ganesha idol collection centres and mobile immersion sites at various strategic locations across the city.

Preparations for Ganeshotsav are going on at all levels. Immersion will also start in one and a half days, i.e., from Wednesday onward. Taking note of this year’s enthusiasm among the people for the celebration, it is believed that this year’s Ganeshotsav will be celebrated in grand style. For this reason, the municipal administration has increased the number of artificial lakes this year.

According to the circular issued by the corporation, the number of lakes has increased, and 191 lakes have been created this year. About 66,127 idols were immersed in artificial lakes last year. Every year, the number of artificial immersion ponds is increasing, and the number of idols immersed in them is also increasing.

Along with the artificial immersion pond, the corporation further informed that there will also be Ganesha idol collection centres and mobile immersion sites at various places in the city. The municipal administration has appealed that those living within a radius of 1 to 2 km from the immersion site should use these artificial ponds and avoid going on to the beaches and subsequently crowding at other immersion sites.

The municipality has also appealed to the people that the rituals of aarti, pooja, etc. should be completed at home or in public places and bid farewell to Ganaraya before the immersion, which will reduce the crowd at the immersion site.
