Mumbai Municipal Corporation Plans Modern Public Toilet with Advanced Amenities near Dahisar Toll Plaza

Mumbai, 10th June 2023: Mumbai Municipal Corporation has recently announced its initiative to construct a modern public toilet near the Dahisar Toll Plaza, situated on the Western Expressway. This facility aims to provide updated amenities to commuters, ensuring a comfortable and hygienic experience.

The proposed restroom will feature separate facilities for men, women, individuals from the third gender, and persons with disabilities. Moreover, it will also include convenient provisions such as a sanitary napkin vending machine, a dedicated room for breastfeeding infants, a diaper-changing area, a drinking water facility, a mobile charging station, an ATM, along with beverages.

In line with the city’s beautification project, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation plans to erect this comprehensive public toilet in an area spanning 12,916 square feet in Dahisar (East). As part of the surrounding landscape, colourful flower trees will be planted, creating a visually appealing environment complemented by the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance security. “The facility will comprise five toilets for men, five toilets for women, and one specifically designed for individuals with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility,” informed Nayanish Vengurlekar, assistant commissioner of the ‘North Railway’ division.

Notably, the toilet will harness the power of solar energy through the installation of solar panels on its roof, generating electricity for the facility’s needs. The surplus electricity will be supplied to the power supply company, resulting in cost savings for the restroom’s monthly operation. Additionally, the project will propose rainwater recharge and harvesting measures, promoting sustainable practices.

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation aims to address the need for sufficient restroom facilities along major roads and expressways, thereby offering convenience to citizens. The solid waste department will be responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the public toilet, ensuring its upkeep and hygiene. Municipal officials have affirmed that the construction will be completed within a year following the allocation of the project mandate.

With the implementation of this innovative initiative, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation strives to enhance the city’s infrastructure and provide essential amenities for commuters, showcasing a commitment to citizen welfare and sustainable development.
