Mumbai: Municipal Corporation Removes Multiple Constructions At Bhattipada Chowk In Bhandup; Clears Way For Road Widening

Mumbai, 4th September 2023: The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has successfully removed 64 constructions that were obstructing the crucial road widening project at Bhattipada Chowk in Bhandup. These structures, which were almost four decades old, were impeding the intersection of Khot Marg, Gadevi Marg, Jangal Mangal Marg, and Bhattipada Marg at Bhattipada Junction. This is a very significant development for the residents and commuters, as it paves the way for much-needed road expansion.

The widening of Bhattipada Junction Chowk brought substantial relief to the residents of Tembipada, Gawdevi, Anthony Church, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Lake. For years, these residents had to grapple with persistent traffic jams when trying to reach Bhandup and Nahoor railway stations.

With the removal of these structures, not only will the daily commute become more manageable, but it will also play a crucial role in the advancement of the Brihanmumbai Storm Water Disposal (Brimstowad) project by allowing the expansion of Gadevi Nala. Assistant Commissioner of S Division, Mahadev Shinde, noted that trees hindering the development were also cut by the authorities, following proper permissions.

The narrow road at Bhattipada junction in the S section had been a notorious bottleneck, causing severe traffic congestion. In response, the S Division undertook the task of widening this square, deploying significant resources for the operation. This included 1 poclain, 3 JCBs, 6 dumpers, 10 officers, and 49 workers. Bhandup Police, along with the participation of officers and staff, worked closely with the engineering team to ensure the successful removal of these obstructing structures.
