Mumbai Police arrest two youths for creating fake profiles and defaming YouTuber

Mumbai, 19th April 2023: Mumbai police have arrested two individuals, Nandlal Badela (20) and Ankur Deb (19), in connection with creating and circulating obscene pictures of a young YouTuber on social media. The accused have been charged with defamation through fake profiles, stalking, and publishing/transmitting obscene material in electronic form. The victim had lodged a complaint on October 18, 2022, stating that the incident had been ongoing since September 9.
The police team, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Kane, analyzed the technical details and traced the makers of the obscene photograph of the complainant. The team of sub-inspector Rahul Kokate went to Assam and arrested the accused Ankur Deb from there. Nandlal Badela was arrested from Vasai.
The police are investigating on whose request the accused did this act. The accused have made the obscene pictures with the help of technology and circulated them on social media. The second accused created a fake Instagram account in the victim’s name and created and circulated obscene pictures of the complainant, causing her to become infamous.
The victim’s complaint highlights the need for stricter laws against cyberbullying and online harassment.
The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Prevention Act. The police have urged citizens to be cautious while sharing personal information on social media and report any such incidents immediately.
