Mumbai Police on High Alert After Anonymous Bomb Threat Email Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Mumbai, 13th May 2025: Mumbai Police have launched a citywide security operation after the Maharashtra Police Control Room received an anonymous email warning of possible bomb blasts within the next two days, sources confirmed on Tuesday. The email, which did not specify the location or timing of any attack, urged authorities not to ignore the threat and warned that a major explosion could occur soon. The message was forwarded immediately to the Mumbai Police, who have begun a detailed investigation with assistance from cyber police teams to trace the sender.

The threat comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following recent military operations and terror attacks, prompting security agencies to intensify vigilance across Mumbai and other major cities. Mumbai Police officials stated that all necessary precautions are being taken and there is no need for public panic. “Authorities are on high alert and all sensitive locations, including government establishments, religious sites, foreign consulates, and railway stations, are under increased surveillance,” a senior official said.

Security measures have been ramped up at key railway stations such as Churchgate, CSMT, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla, Mumbai Central, Andheri, Chembur, Govandi, and Borivali. Bomb detection and disposal squads are actively inspecting platforms, footbridges, and suspicious baggage, while anti-sabotage checks have been intensified. Police have also issued orders banning firecrackers and rockets in the city from May 11 to June 9 as a precautionary step, with strict action warned against violators under the Maharashtra Police Act.

The cyber police are currently working to trace the origin of the email through its IP address, and the authenticity of the threat is under scrutiny. In recent years, Mumbai has seen several similar threats, many of which have turned out to be hoaxes, but officials emphasised that every warning is treated with utmost seriousness until proven otherwise.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a high-level security meeting with senior police, military, and intelligence officials to ensure coordinated action and robust public safety protocols in light of the ongoing regional tensions. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, assuring that the city’s security apparatus is fully mobilised to prevent any untoward incident.
