Mumbai: Railway Stations To Get Nursing Pods For Mothers

Mumbai, 21st December 2022: The Central Railway plans to set up breast-feeding pods at seven major railway stations of the Mumbai division. This special facility is intended to make travel easier for women travelling with infants.

The pods will be set up at seven major railway stations including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Thane, and Kalyan to make travel safer for women and children.

These breast-feeding pods will be created through the non-fare revenue policy and will be available free of charge to all commuters. Under this scheme, 1 nursing pod will be available at CSMT station and 3 each at Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak terminus. 2 more nursing pods will be available at Thane and Lonavala each, and one each at Kalyan and Panvel. Each pod will have seating facilities, diaper changing station, fan, light.The sides of the pod will contain advertisements of licensee for complete contract period and will be made visibly attractive, he said.

Travelling has always been difficult for women with infant children. These breast-feeding pods are intended to ease this difficulty by providing privacy, safety and comfort to both the mothers and their children.
