Mumbai: Siddhivinayak Temple Bans Short and Revealing Clothing for Visitors

Mumbai, 29th January 2025: The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT) announced on Tuesday that devotees wearing short or revealing clothing will not be allowed entry into the Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
A statement from the trust outlined the new dress code, specifying that visitors must wear modest Indian traditional attire. “The clothing should cover the body fully,” the statement read, adding that those who fail to comply with the rules will be denied entry.
The new guidelines will take effect from January 28.
Rahul Londe, a member of the trust, explained that the decision was made after a recent meeting where it was collectively agreed that the dress code was necessary to uphold the temple’s sanctity. “We are not dictating specific attire but encouraging decency in clothing for all visitors, both men and women,” he said.
Londe further elaborated on the reasoning behind the decision: “We have noticed some visitors wearing T-shirts and shorts, while others come in revealing outfits. Such attire can be inappropriate when standing before the deity and can disturb other devotees. The temple sees between 75,000 and 90,000 visitors daily.”
To raise awareness, the trust will display posters about the new dress code. It emphasized that the policy aims to ensure all visitors feel comfortable and to preserve the decorum of the temple environment.
