Mumbai Snapchat Blackmail Case: Minor Girl Sexually Exploited, Blackmailed with Explicit Photos

Mumbai, 3rd June 2025: A shocking case has come to light in Mumbai, where an accused befriended a minor girl on Snapchat just eleven days ago, later obtaining explicit photographs and subjecting her to sexual exploitation. The incident took a sinister turn when the accused threatened to viral the victim’s explicit images, sending them to her father along with the threat. The Antop Hill Police Station has registered a case against the perpetrator.

Platforms like Instagram and Snapchat are increasingly proving dangerous for teenage girls, as predators use these social media channels to befriend minors, coerce them into sharing explicit photos, and then blackmail them for further exploitation, including sexual abuse. One such incident recently occurred in the Antop Hill area. The victim is a 15-year-old girl whose father received a threatening call from an unknown person on May 30.

The caller claimed to possess explicit images of the 15-year-old and threatened to viral them unless the girl stopped communicating with a boy named Ayush. Subsequently, the person sent the girl’s father three explicit photographs and one explicit video of his daughter. The father was left devastated, requesting the perpetrator not to viral the images and promising to counsel his daughter.

Upon questioning their daughter, the parents learned that the victim had befriended a boy named Arjun on Snapchat on May 19. Arjun engaged her in conversation, then took advantage of her innocence to pressure her into sharing explicit photos and videos. When the girl called Arjun in front of her parents, he once again threatened to viral the explicit images. Following this, the girl’s parents filed a complaint at Antop Hill Police Station.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the accused, Arjun, under sections 66(E), 67, and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act of 2000.
