Mumbai: Special Traffic Block On December 18 And 25 For Work On Airoli Katai Naka Road Project

Mumbai, 17th December 2022: Eight steel girders of 63 m length will be constructed to cross State Highway No. 4 between Mumbra Shilphata for elevated road work in the first phase of Airoli Katai Naka Road Project.

For this, a special traffic block will be taken on December 18 and 25 and the traffic of heavy vehicles on this route will be closed during this period, informed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Heavy traffic will be diverted during the traffic block. Also, the Y Junction flyover at Mumbra will also be closed for traffic and other traffic will continue under the flyover, MMRDA has said.

MMRDA has undertaken the work of 12.30 km Airoli to Katai Naka Elevated Road to reduce the traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and to reduce the distance between Navi Mumbai and Dombivli. The project, which will directly reduce the distance between Airoli and Dombivli by 10 km, is being implemented in three phases.

If the Airoli to Katai project is completed, the journey from Navi Mumbai to Dombivli can be done in just 15 minutes. The elevated road work in the first phase of this project is currently going on at full speed. In areas near Bharat Bijli, the height of the elevated road is approximately 15 meters from the ground. Accordingly, eight girders will be installed for this elevated road and the weight of these girders will be approximately 650 metric tons. The girders will be laid in two phases and four girders will be installed in the first phase and four girders in the second phase.

A-750 tonne capacity crawler crane will be used for erecting this girder and 2 additional cranes will be used for diaphragm connection. For the challenging work of these eight girders, a special traffic block is required. Accordingly, the MMRDA had sought permission from the traffic police for a special traffic block.

Accordingly this permission has been received and special traffic block will be taken on 18th (Monday) and 25th December (Sunday). Traffic will be closed on December 18 from 12.01 pm to 11.59 pm. On December 25, there will be a traffic block from 12.01 pm to 11.59 pm.

In view of safety during work State Highway No. Heavy vehicle traffic between Mumbra Shilphata on 4 will be closed. So this traffic will be diverted by other alternative routes. Also, the Y Junction flyover at Mumbra will also be closed for traffic and other traffic will continue under the flyover.
