Mumbai: State Government Uplifted Restrictions On Ganesh Idol Size And Idols Made-Up Of PoP For This Year’s Ganeshotsav Celebration

Mumbai, 11th August 2023: As the fervour of Ganeshotsav approaches and with just a month left for the preparation for the commencement of Ganapati Bappa, the government made a significant announcement on Thursday, removing the earlier condition of a maximum height of 4 feet for Ganesh idols for Ganpati Mandals across the state.
In a move to acknowledge the livelihoods of the number of sculptors who have engaged in this activity for many generations, the government has also decided to temporarily suspend the restrictions on the use of PoP for this year’s celebrations. The decision has been taken in the meeting of the State Government, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and Coordination Committee.
Mumbai, renowned for its grandeur celebration of Ganeshotsav, boasts a staggering 12 thousand Ganeshotsav Mandals. The latest announcement by the Government of Maharashtra brings a sigh of relief for these Mandals, allowing them to use idols made up of Plaster of Paris for the upcoming festival. In a further notification, the government has also waived off the requirement for online applications for idol installations.
Although the application process had initially kicked off on August 1, this recent government directive has done away with the process, especially for large Ganesh Mandals.
