Mumbai: Student Named In Darshan Solanki’s Note Interrogated By Police

Mumbai, 7th April 2023: A handwriting expert’s report confirmed that the note found in the room of IIT Bombay student Darshan Solanki after his suicide was written by him, according to sources. The report was submitted to the Crime Branch on Friday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been investigating the matter and has recorded statements from Solanki’s acquaintances, including a student named in the note before his death.

The report by the Signature Analysis Cell of the Crime Investigation Department confirms that the note was written by Solanki, and that a student’s name was mentioned in it. The SIT has interrogated the student but they have not revealed the details of the argument mentioned in the note. The student had apologized to Solanki on February 10, two days before the latter’s suicide. Sources suggest that a lie detector test may be conducted on the student as they are not cooperating with the investigation.

The SIT also recorded the statement of Uday Singh Meena, who revealed that after a student learned of Solanki’s caste, they stopped talking to him. Meena advised Solanki to talk to other friends. It is unclear if this incident was related to the argument mentioned in the note. Solanki had committed suicide on February 12. A case was registered in Powai police station in this regard.
